I am an HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist, certified Yoga and Mindfulness teacher and founder of The Psychology Company. In 2017 I moved to California and now provide therapy and supervision online via Zoom. My working hours are 5pm-10pm GMT. I also work at the San Francisco DBT Centre and am a supervisor and instructor for the California Schema Therapy Training programme.
The therapeutic approaches I specialise in include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
I work with people aged 18 years and over and appreciate there are many and varied things that can bring someone to therapy. I specialise in working with people who have experienced attachment and relational trauma. This can include physical/verbal/sexual/emotional abuse, emotional neglect (e.g. low emotional intelligence within the family/lack of emotional nurturance/empathy/warmth), growing up in invalidating/critical/emotionally dismissive family environments, growing up in an over-controlling environment where you were not free to be expressive/play/make mistakes, growing up with a caregiver who was either physically or emotionally unavailable e.g. they may have worked away a lot or been emotionally distant, growing up witnessing significant and/or frequent parental conflict/domestic violence, growing up with a family member who was addicted to alcohol and/or drugs, growing up with a family member who had volatile moods and/or angry outbursts, growing up with a family member who was depressed or experienced mental health problems, growing up with a family member who themselves experienced attachment/relational trauma as a child which went untreated, losing a parent/sibling/someone very close to you whilst growing up, experiencing parental divorce, going to boarding school, bullying and feeling different and/or ostracised from family or peers.
I also work with people experiencing depression (both current and past/recurring depression), anxiety/panic attacks, OCD, low self worth, fluctuating moods/emotional instability, relationship difficulties, personality disorders and problematic coping behaviours such as binge eating, drinking and self-harm). People with these difficulties may or may not have experienced attachment and relational trauma.
I believe a strong therapeutic relationship combined with evidenced based structured therapy is imperative in helping people make the changes they desire and feel very privileged to be able to work with people to help them overcome their difficulties and reach their goals.
